Thomas M. Stephenson
President and Chief Executive Officer
Tom Stephenson took a different path than most CEOs. He started with HMS soon after its conception as a programmer and worked his way to his current leadership position in 2005. In this position, he develops and leads the HMS executive team and provides strategic direction for the company – including recapitalization of the company in 2007, stewardship of the platform through its first CCHIT certification in 2007, and a complete reengineering of the systems implementation process in 2008. On his path to the C-suite, Tom has held the positions of Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Customer Services and programmer/analyst.
Steve Starkey
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Steve Starkey was also one of the founding programmers of the HMS system. In 1998, he left to help several other healthcare companies before re-joining HMS in 2005 as Vice President of Research and Development. Now, as COO, he oversees and manages all daily HMS operations,including Product Development, Programming, Quality Assurance, Customer Support Services, Documentation, Implementation, Education and Consulting Services. Steve served as Director of Information Systems at Community Health Systems, CIO at Behavioral Healthcare Corporation and CIO at Ardent Health before returning to HMS.
Michael Freeman
Senior Vice President, Sales
Mike Freeman joined HMS in 2004 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing and was named Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 2008. In his current position, he oversees and manages Sales, Account Management, and Product Demonstrations. Mike has spent most of his 28-year career in sales and marketing of healthcare information systems. He has held various sales and sales management positions with McDonnell Douglas Health Systems, Gerber Alley Health Systems, McKesson HBOC and Avega Health Systems.
Rick Brown
Vice President, Product Development
Rick Brown joined HMS in 1990 as a programmer. Currently the Vice President of Product Development, he is responsible for programming and software support and works across organizational boundaries to drive a "customer first" focus throughout the company. Rick led the clinical development team through the creation of HMS’ advanced clinical products and ensured their certification under CCHIT, an independent certifying organization that warrants the functionality and operability of hospital information systems.
Randall Cothron
Vice President, Professional Services
Randall Cothron joined HMS in 1991 as Director of Client Services. As Vice President of Professional Services, Cothron helps hospitals manage business office operations such as accounts receivables management during and after implementation of HMS systems. In 2010, Randall formed Sentry Healthcare Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary to support non-HMS hospitals. Prior to joining HMS, he was a District Assistant Vice President with Quorum Health Resources. During his tenure with Quorum, Randall held the position of Chief Financial Officer at several managed hospitals.
Jack Holt
Vice President, Client Services
Jack joined HMS in 2010. As vice president of client services, he is responsible for the HMS implementation and education teams. Prior to joining HMS, Jack was vice president of client services for McKesson Provider Technologies, where he was responsible for delivering physician office technology—including electronic medical records, practice management systems, and patient health records—to physician offices throughout the United States. Before McKesson, Jack was vice president of client services for Misys Healthcare Systems, where he was responsible for delivery of enterprise clinical systems to the acute-care market in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Middle East.
