Summersville Regional Selects Healthcare Management Systems
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 15, 2010) – Summersville Regional Medical Center (SRMC) has selected Healthcare Management Systems, Inc.® (HMS) to provide integrated clinical and financial information system applications for the regional provider’s inpatient services and physician clinics.
The HMS system is an enterprise-wide technology solution implemented in more than 650 community hospitals across the United States and Puerto Rico. Dora Douglas, chief financial officer of SRMC, said HMS’ plan to insure customers meet meaningful use was the primary factor in SRMC’s decision.
“We attended the annual HMS customer meeting, and the presentations on meaningful use convinced me HMS was the partner for us,” said Douglas. “We also had the opportunity to talk to other customers and listen to their experiences and that made a big difference to us as well.”
“Choosing a vendor for the long term is important,” Douglas continued. “Other vendors could have provided software to accomplish our goals, but we want to build on this relationship far into the future, and we see HMS as the right partner for that.” SRMC will implement a full suite of financial applications, along with advanced nursing clinicals and computerized provider order entry. This implementation will occur over the next six months. Plans call for implementation of Ambulatory EHR in the physician clinics to follow within another two months. Douglas said SRMC then plans to move to implementation of HMS EDIS powered by MEDHOST, the newest application among the enterprise-wide portfolio of products. Douglas said the SRMC medical staff was particularly supportive about the addition of this application and the integration of clinical information from the ER to the inpatient EHR.
“Our physicians felt the ED product was fantastic,” Douglas said. “We expect it to really help us in dealing with ED staffing issues, patient tracking and keeping the staff engaged in ways that will reduce customer complaints.”
“We are uniquely positioned to help a regional community provider like Summersville integrate their clinical, financial and clinic systems to create a seamless flow of information,” said Tom Stephenson, president and chief executive officer of HMS. “They are focused on achieving meaningful use enterprise-wide and improving patient care at the same time, and we will help them achieve both those goals.”
