Clinical View: A critical component
for a paperless environment
"As a hospital, we're working toward a paperless environment, as well as easier and quicker access to data. Clinical View is a critical component of that goal."

On the same page
A member of HMS' Clinical Sales Support team, Stacey Wix, RN, demonstrates Clinical View to clients, and she frequently uses a "one chart" example to encourage hospitals to go the paperless route. "When hospitals use paper charts for a patient's record, all key information is in that one document. You have to be onsite to look at that chart."
Clinical View alleviates such a waiting period. "The browser-based system lessens the turnaround time because everyone is on same page when it comes to a patient's status," Wix explains. "Web access allows you to see a bigger picture of how the patient is doing."
The paperless route
Karen Tracy, director of quality at the 25-bed Rochelle Community Hospital in Rochelle, Illinois, appreciates how Clinical View streamlines records. "It's great because it pulls all the information together, including orders that have been dictated, a patient's vital signs, lab tests and radiology results."
Although Rochelle has only had the program since January 2004, Tracy foresees costs savings as the hospital completes its transition to electronic records. "We're working toward a paperless environment," she says. "Clinical View is a critical component of that goal."
Flexible and integrated
Clinical View is integrated with several other HMS solutions, including Laboratory, Radiology, Transcription, Order Communications and Pharmacy. It also offers a customizable option that allows up to four clinical elements to be viewed at once. "A radiologist may only need to view the Radiology and Transcription views," Wix explains. "A physician might want to see a pharmacy profile and lab results. There is flexibility in getting to data, which saves time."
