Database Administrator
This position is located within the following department: Product Development
Job Description
Design, develop and support efficient and scalable database architecture for all client and internal applications. Work with Product Development and Programming departments to identify areas where database design and database access can be made more efficient.
- Create and enforce Data Normalization policy by making recommendations, reviewing, approving and rejecting data base change proposals.
- Research, experiment and prove database tuning and optimization methods relating to the following areas: System i5 and Linux, RPG and Java accessing a DB2 database.
- Lead Programming Department in physical database design; performance tuning; trouble shooting; error handling and hardware planning as it relates to database performance.
- Develop and maintain all systems database structure documentation, i.e.: What are the relationships between files and what keys link them.
- Provide written database change analysis for every Release to be distributed to clients, i.e.: What files/fields have changed for this release.
- Provide direction and assistance to application support group including problem resolution.
- Percent of travel: 5-10%
Required Education & Training
- Bachelors in Computer Science or associates degree in data processing or equivalent experience.
- 5 years DBMS experience with a focus on SQL.
- Additional experience with Java, HTML, XML will be considered an asset.
- Good interpersonal skills that include the ability to effectively communicate in both writing and verbally.
- Good verbal, written and presentation skills
- Excellent written, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with staff in several different departments to include; Programming, Product Development and Client Technical Services.
- Must be detail oriented, organized, and have the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to demonstrate supportive relationships with peers, clients, partners, and corporate executives.
- Must be flexible with a “can do” attitude and have the ability to remain professional under high pressure situations.
- Ability to retain and protect confidential material.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Negative pre-employment drug tests.
